Visit the Protean (formerly NSDL) PAN application portal

Go to the official Protean PAN services page. The "Online PAN application" section is displayed directly on the public page.

New Application

Click the "New Application" tab to start a fresh PAN application.

You can also apply through UTIITSL at pan.utiitsl.com. Both are authorised by the Income Tax Department.

Choose PAN application type and applicant category

Select the appropriate PAN application type (Form 49A for Indian citizens or Form 49AA for foreign citizens) and choose "Individual" as the applicant category.

Fill in applicant details

Enter your full name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, and Aadhaar number exactly as per records. The form fields are shown on the public application page.

Upload documents and photo

After submitting the basic form, upload a recent passport-size photograph and your signature. If you use Aadhaar e-KYC, document upload may be minimal or skipped. This step happens inside the application workflow.

Use a clear, colour passport photo with a white background. File size should be under 300 KB.

Pay the application fee

Review your application and proceed to payment. Choose from UPI, debit/credit card, or net banking. The fee is ₹107 for Indian dispatch and ₹1,017 for international dispatch (inclusive of GST).

Do not refresh the page during payment. Wait for the gateway to redirect back to the portal.

Save the acknowledgement number

After successful payment, an acknowledgement receipt with a 15-digit number is generated. Save or print it for tracking. You can also download the e-PAN once it is issued.
