Overview
A fresh Indian passport is issued to first-time applicants. The application is filed online through the Passport Seva portal, followed by fee payment, appointment booking, and a personal visit to the Passport Seva Kendra for document verification and biometrics.
Eligibility
- You are an Indian citizen applying for a passport for the first time
- You do not hold a valid Indian passport
- You can provide proof of identity, address, and date of birth

- Date of birth proof (birth certificate, school leaving certificate, etc.)
- Passport-size photographs as per PSK specifications
- Self-attested photocopies of documents

Visit the Passport Seva Online Portal
Open https://passportindia.gov.in and click Apply For Passport or Fresh/Re-issue to start a new application.

Create an account if you are a first-time user. Use a valid email and mobile number.
Register or log in
Enter your Passport Seva Login ID to access the applicant dashboard. New users must register with their email and mobile number.

Select "Apply for Fresh Passport"
After logging in, choose Apply for Fresh Passport and fill in the service required and booklet type details.

Fill the online application form
Complete the application form with your personal details, family details, address, and emergency contact information. Upload a passport-size photograph as per PSK specifications.

Pay the passport fee
Choose the passport booklet type (36 or 60 pages) and normal or Tatkal service. Pay the applicable fee online through the secure payment gateway.

Book appointment at PSK
After payment, select your preferred Passport Seva Kendra, date, and time slot. Confirm the appointment and print the application receipt.

On the appointment day, visit the selected PSK with your documents and photographs. Complete biometric verification and document checking.
