Overview
The Tatkal scheme provides faster passport processing for applicants who need to travel urgently. After a successful PSK visit, the passport is typically issued within 1 to 3 working days, subject to document verification and police clearance.
Eligibility
- You have a valid reason for urgent travel
- You can provide all required documents in original
- You are not in a category restricted from Tatkal, such as certain address changes or lost passport cases

- Aadhaar or other identity and address proof
- Date of birth proof
- Passport-size photographs
- Self-attested photocopies
- Proof of urgency such as ticket or visa, if requested

Step-by-Step Process
Visit the Passport Seva portal
Open https://passportindia.gov.in and click Apply For Passport to start a fresh or reissue application under the Tatkal scheme.

Log in to your account
Enter your Passport Seva Login ID and password to access the applicant dashboard.

Select the Tatkal service
While filling the application, choose Tatkal as the service type. Confirm that your case is eligible for Tatkal processing.

Complete the application form with accurate details and upload a passport-size photograph as per PSK specifications.

Book a Tatkal appointment
Choose an available Tatkal appointment slot at your preferred PSK. Confirm the booking and print the receipt.
